You can’t speak Tamil.

There are a few words I would like to share with you all.

After our interview on Wedding Ennum Thirumanam with IBC Tamil, I received many negative comments, messages and comparison.

” You can’t speak Tamil. Why is she acting like she can’t speak Tamil? I can’t handle the way she speaks. ” This is some of the comments I received. Not only that. There was also a massive discussion about my Tamil on the related post on my Instagram, which I later deleted.

A language should connect us together as humans, but unfortunately our community degrades each one into certain groups based on the way we speak our mother tongue.
I may have an accent when I speak Tamil, but I’m not ashamed of my roots. This should not define me as a person either. You don’t have the rights to judge anyone based on the way they speak a language.

We all should focus more on supporting each other as a Tamil and spread our culture around the world. Sadly, there are a few who like to put others down to make themselves feel better. If you want to uphold our mother tongue, try to motivate and engorge each other to speak regardless the accent.

I send all my love to those who are uncomfortable or afraid to talk Tamil because of narrow minded people. Don’t let anyone stop you from speaking your mother tongue. You can only try your best. If they can’t appreciate that, it’s their fault, not yours.

Thank you everyone for your love and support. Share your thoughts in the comment box.

So many stupid haters in this world omg.
To be honest, I really love your sweet accent. You were so good for that & I appreciate it. I love supporting everyone 💗.
Go ahead hun, these miserable people are not worth it..they are simply jealous & pathetic. Instead of criticizing, it’s better to encourage & support each other. Never stop what you do.For haters, Kill them by your smile & your success. I’m very happy to support you ❤
    Stay blessed 😘

After watching you interview here is my comment : The thing is you were born in srilanka and escaped the war (i guess) not when you were a baby, but a children who went to school in Sri lanka like most of sri lankan women in your age, and YET you speak with a western accent, even people BORN in a western country who has to cope with their mother tongue (tamil) and other languages such as dutch, french, english since kindergarten are speaking Tamil in a more fluent way than you do. The western culture may occur a shift in our point of view, perception, even behavior, lifestyle but not gives us suddenly an accent given the space we live.
